Are There Any Accessories Included With The Medela Freestyle Hands-free Double Electric Wearable Breast Pump?
The Medela Freestyle doesn’t come with too many accessories, but everything it does come with is incredibly helpful for the user. It comes with two sizes of breast shield for you to choose from including 21 and 24 mm, which gives you the chance to test out two sizes and find what works best for you. It also comes with a power adapter and a charging cable, meaning you should be able to charge it while out and about without any issues. Aside from these three accessories, all you get in the box are the pieces necessary for getting the pump to work and an instruction manual, so you’re not left with any obsolete accessories that’ll just gather dust in your home somewhere.
What Sets The Medela Freestyle Hands-free Double Electric Wearable Breast Pump Apart From The Crowd?
The Medela Freestyle is an excellent pump with many features that help it stand out from the rest of the market, including some of our personal favourites:
The ultra-lightweight design
One of our favourite features is how lightweight this pump is, making it suitable for parents who want to get on with their daily routine while pumping. The collection cups are some of the lightest available on the market, weighing just 76 grams each! There’s much less risk of backache while using this pump than other wearable options on the market, along with less risk of spillage or leaking thanks to their lightweight design. The small design of these cups helps them fit into the majority of bras without any hesitation, letting you enjoy your day without being trapped underneath the weight of pumping. Some parents even said that this extended their pumping journey by making the sessions more bearable!
Lager collection cups
Another feature we really like about the Medela Freestyle is its larger cup design, despite the rest of it being more compact! These cups can hold up to 150 ml each, letting you pump for longer without the risk of spills and overfilling. This is a great feature for parents who find that they often have an oversupply of milk and who are constantly pumping to make sure they feel comfortable. Most pumps come with 100 ml collection cups, so the added 50 ml can make all the difference and prevent you from having to keep emptying your pump before reattaching it again.
How Much Does The Medela Freestyle Hands-free Double Electric Wearable Breast Pump Cost?
The Medela Freestyle currently costs $599.95, which is much more than a lot of other double electric breast pumps on the market right now. However, the higher price comes from the fact that the brand is so renowned and trusted in the baby-feeding community, with plenty of research and awards backing it. The decision is yours, but we think this is a worthwhile investment if you’re planning on exclusively pumping or have an oversupply.
What Is The Warranty On The Medela Freestyle Hands-free Double Electric Wearable Breast Pump?
Medela offers a one-year warranty on its breast pumps, and the Freestyle is no different. You also have the option to extend this by another year as long as you register your pump within a month of purchase, so make sure you do this to benefit from two years of coverage! We think this is a great warranty, especially as most parents only pump for between one and two years.
Is The Medela Freestyle Hands-free Double Electric Wearable Breast Pump Comfortable?
Yes, the Medela Freestyle is super comfortable thanks to the lightweight and small cups that fit comfortably and discreetly in your bra as you get on with your day. This prevents you from being confined to a nursing chair multiple times a day. The cups are anatomically shaped, meaning they’re designed to fit more comfortably than standard round breast shields, letting you maximise expression and reduce pain by preventing the breast tissue from being compressed. The 2-phase expression technology also helps with comfort as it mimics a baby’s natural sucking rhythm, so nothing about this pump feels awkward or unnatural.
Is The Medela Freestyle Hands-free Double Electric Wearable Breast Pump Easy To Adjust?
The Medela Freestyle is super easy to adjust! The remote control is one of the simplest we’ve seen, with only four buttons easily labelled to make sure you know what each does as soon as you need to change something. The only issue we had was trying to adjust the milk collectors while they were tucked away in our clothing, as we felt like they were quite restricted and we were concerned about them leaking as we readjusted them.
Is The Medela Freestyle Hands-free Double Electric Wearable Breast Pump Easy To Attach And Use?
The Medela Freestyle is super easy to attach and use, especially as the wearable pumps can fit directly into your bra! All you need to do is line the breast shield up with your nipple and press the pump into your breast while you readjust your bra around it. Do this on both sides before using the remote control to turn it on. We really like this design as we could put the compact remote into our pockets and get on with the day while pumping instead of being confined to a nursing chair for multiple hours each day.
To control the Freestyle pump you can either connect the pump to Medela’s Family app which allows you to create a personalised profile to tailor it to your needs, or you can use the remote control. The pump comes with multiple modes to choose from, but one of our favourites is the 2-Phase Expression technology that utilises a baby’s natural sucking motion to both stimulate milk flow and express more milk from each pumping session.
Is The Medela Freestyle Hands-free Double Electric Wearable Breast Pump Easy To Clean?
The Medela Freestyle is super easy to clean thanks to the brand’s intuitive design! The collection cups only have three parts, letting you clean them more thoroughly and put them back together within a few seconds. Most of the pieces are also dishwasher safe, making cleaning a breeze! We were really happy with how quickly we had this pump washed, sterilised, reassembled, and ready for its next use.
Final Thoughts On The Medela Freestyle Hands-free Double Electric Wearable Breast Pump
Overall, we were really impressed with the Medela Freestyle Wearable Breast Pump! Some of our favourite features were the ultra-lightweight design and the larger collection cups as both of these features enhanced our user experience and made it much easier to adjust to. The only issue we had was trying to adjust the cups while positioned underneath our clothing as this felt like a potential leak hazard.
