What Are The Benefits Of The Haakaa Generation 1?
- Many parents loved that this pump came with two uses rather than one, as it can be used as a milk collector and a manual pump
- This pump is super easy to clean and maintain, so don’t worry about wasting lots of time cleaning it between uses
What Are The Drawbacks Of The Haakaa Generation 1?
- Some buyers wished this pump came with a stand or suction base so that they didn’t feel like they were risking the milk they’d collected every time they placed the pump down
Are There Any Accessories Included With The Haakaa Generation 1?
Unfortunately, the Haakaa Generation 1 doesn’t come with any accessories, so you’ll need to buy them separately if you want to use them with it. While this is a little disappointing, we think it’s justified considering the price. Haakaa offers a range of accessories on their website if you’d like to spruce up your Silicone Collector, including:
- Silicone breast pump strap
- Silicone breast pump cap
- Silicone breast pump flower stopper
- Silicone brush
- Insulated storage bag
- Silicone cleaning brush kit
What Sets The Haakaa Generation 1 Apart From The Crowd?
When testing out the Haakaa Generation 1, we found plenty of features that we think other parents will love. Here are a few of the standout features:
2-in-1 functionality
One of our favourite features of the Haakaa Generation 1 is that it can be used for more than just one use. While it’s marketed as a Silicone Milk Collector, it can also be used as a manual breast pump. This means that you can use it to express milk as well as catch let-downs, which can be super helpful when you wake up feeling engorged or too full. The Haakaa can offer incredible relief within just a few minutes, and you don’t have to worry about manually expressing over the sink where you’ll lose perfectly good breast milk. For such a low price, it’s impressive that you can enjoy two very useful functions.
Incredibly easy to clean and maintain
Some breast pumps are surprisingly difficult to clean, but the Haakaa Generation 1 couldn’t be any different. Made from 100% food-grade silicone, the Haakaa is created without any joints, cracks, or edges for bacteria to harbour. This makes it incredibly easy to clean with a silicone brush and soap, or a simple run in the dishwasher. You can then sterilise the Haakaa in the microwave before storing it for use again – simple!
How Much Does The Haakaa Generation 1 Cost?
The Haakaa Generation currently costs $20.40, which we think is a great price considering how effective and functional this collector is! After seeing the popularity of the Haakaa, the market quickly became saturated with other silicone collectors with higher price points. However, many customers still think the Haakaa is the best, so you can get the best of the best for a lower price!
What Is The Warranty On The Haakaa Generation 1?
The Haakaa Generation 1 unfortunately doesn’t come with a warranty as it’s made entirely of consumable parts, which are all BPA-free silicone. Warranties are not offered due to hygiene reasons, although you can send your Haakaa back within fourteen days if you change your mind and the collector is unused and in its original condition. We were a little disappointed by this, but the lower price helped to soften the blow of no warranty.
Is The Haakaa Generation 1 Comfortable?
Yes, many parents find the Haakaa Generation 1 perfectly comfortable, thanks to its soft, silicone design, which is kind to the skin. It’s also BPA-, PVC-, and phthalate-free, preventing a skin reaction while you’re using the collector. When using it as a manual pump, you’re also in complete control of the speed and strength of your expression session. When using it as a collector, you can determine how strong you need the suction so you don’t have to suffer through too much pinching or pulling while you breastfeed.
Is The Haakaa Generation 1 Easy To Adjust?
The Haakaa Generation 1 can’t be adjusted in size as it’s designed to be a let-down milk collector rather than a constant pump. The flange is 24 mm, which is one of the most common breast shield sizes on the market. While most other pump brands offer smaller or larger adjusters, the Haakaa doesn’t need to, thanks to its flexible silicone flange. This means that you can attach it to a number of body shapes and sizes without the worry of it not fitting, and you can use the Haakaa for multiple breastfeeding journeys.
Is The Haakaa Generation 1 Easy To Attach And Use?
Most parents are incredibly happy with how easy the Haakaa Generation 1 is to attach and use! To attach the pump, all you need to do is place the flange over your nipple until it is perfectly aligned with the neck of the pump. Now squeeze the base of the pump to apply suction, which will begin the flow of milk. Once you notice the milk beginning to flow, leave the pump alone to do its thing! Unlike many other manual pumps, you don’t have to keep squeezing the base to encourage pumping – the suction will do all that for you!
Once your pump is full, simply remove it carefully and store the milk in a bottle or safe freezer bag. Bear in mind that this breast pump doesn’t come with a suction base, so be careful if you’re going to place the pump on a table before storing it. Alternatively, you could buy a Haakaa cap to protect the milk from any expected spills.
Is The Haakaa Generation 1 Easy To Clean?
The Haakaa Generation 1 is incredibly easy to clean – that’s one of our favourite things about it! The silicone breast pump is made from a one-piece construction that doesn’t have any cracks or gaps for milk to get in, so there’s no difficult scrubbing needed! Plus, you can either wash it in the dishwasher or with a silicone cleaning brush, so you’re in control of which cleaning method is best for you. Sterilise it in the microwave or by boiling it for a few minutes, and you’re ready to go again!
Final Thoughts On The Haakaa Generation 1
Overall, we were really impressed with the Haakaa Generation 1 and think it’s a great choice to accompany you on your breastfeeding journey! Some of our favourite features were its 2-in-1 functionality, being usable as a manual pump and let-down collector, and how easy it was to clean. The only drawback we found is that it’s not the steadiest to stand up without a stand or suction base, so spills are more likely to happen if you’re not careful.
